For the Grünkern-Käse-Weckerln, dissolve the yeast and salt in the water and mix with the remaining ingredients to form a dough.

Add margarine only in the last third. Let the dough rest for 20 minutes. Weigh out pieces of dough weighing 30 g, round them and shape them into biscuits.

Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper and let rise for about 30 minutes. Then cut the Weckerln lengthwise 1 cm deep and fill with cheese.

Place a water container in the oven. Place the Weckerln in the preheated oven at 220 °C, turn down to 180 °C after 2 minutes and bake for approx. 18 – 20 minutes.

Preparation Tip:

Instead of cheese, you can also sprinkle smoked ham or bacon into the Grünkern cheese crackers.
