Remove the skin from the onions, cut away the top and bottom so that the onions stand well. Cut the tomatoes into quarters and scrape out the seeds. Brush an ovenproof gratin dish with olive oil. Pour in tomatoes, garlic and olives. Place onions in the dish. On top of each onion, place a flake of butter mold. Rinse thyme and sprinkle in the mold. Season onions with salt and pepper and cook in oven heated to 200 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Serve as a separate dish with white bread or as an accompaniment to meat dishes.
